Tufa Phenomenon - Edu Trail Plitvice
Enjoy the idyll - take a walk along the educational trail Plitvice to the highest waterfall in Croatia
The educational trail meanders along the 4 km long stream Plitvice, one of the permanent watercourses of the Plitvice Lakes National Park. The stream's source never dries up and is the third largest karst spring within the park. Due to changes in a geological base, tufa deposits intensively in the Plitvice streambed which makes the stream globally unique but also particularly sensitive to human activities and therefore in need of special attention and care.
The active tufa barriers, which you will encounter during the walk, have been in a continuous and very complex and delicate process of creation for over 6000 years!
A further walk will lead you to the canyon of the Lower Lakes where Croatia's highest waterfall awaits you - the 78 meters high Great waterfall. The trail can be accessed from the Entrance 1.
