Summer Eco Farm Tours
All food production systems are particularly vulnerable to climate. Surge in drought, floods and other weather extremes have become more frequent, posing a growing threat to food security, and we have also experienced the pandemic!
These changes are already having a significant effects on the quality and quantity of food produced locally and globally. Other effects include water scarcity and the loss of healthy ecosystems (biodiversity) that are the foundation of food security. And all this is directly related to the quality and high cost of goods sold.
Understanding changes - and what can we do:
- we can waste less food - shop rationally, 1/3 of all food produced globally goes to waste
Around 88 million tonnes of food worth 143 billion euros is thrown away annually in the EU, while at the same time many EU citizens suffer from hunger and lack of quality food, not just in poorer countries - in the UK alone, the world's sixth largest economy, more than 8,4 million adults and children are lacking food.
The freshly published British government figures show that by 2020 4.3 million children in Britain lived in poverty. A shocking 1,7 million children went hungry because their families struggled to buy food!!

- we can grow our own food - anybody can grow their own food, we’ll be adding to the world’s global food supply instead of taking from it;
- we can buy certified sustainable foods - the world’s land and waterways are being depleted at an alarming rate. One of the best ways to help the global food supply is by buying certified sustainable foods helping ensure that there’s enough for generations to come;
- we can buy products from local farmers - almost all our fruits and vegetables from a supermarket were picked before they were ripe, heavily treated with chemicals, and transported several long days or weeks on a truck, train or a boat. That means that they are not nearly as nutritious and healthy as those that were picked at peak ripeness, and that they cause a whole lot of carbon emissions (read pollution) during the transportation stage.
By buying from local farmers or markets, you’re getting produce that’s both fresh and planet-friendly.
As tourists, we can all help ease this problem, we can visit and support rare and important family farms in the area of our holidays. Visit ours now in the area of our 2Parks, they offer a well-rounded variety of fresh, organic fruit and vegetables. Find out more about the seasonal work on the farm, seasonal fruits and vegetables as well as the importance of eating with the cycles of nature.
