Royal town of Ostrovica

The remnents of the Royal town of Ostrovica is located near the small town of Kulen Vakuf. Kulen Vakuf is a surrounded by hills, and on top of one of them you will find the Royal town of Ostrovica. The first written record about Ostrovica dates from 1407 in the certificate issued by the Hungarian-Croatian King Ladislas to the Duke Sandalj in which the King acknowledges Sandalj's ownership of the town.

Like many other historical sites in the area, Ostrovica also testifies to the extremely turbulent history of this region. Due to its important strategic position, size and almost inaccessibility this fortifications was a safe haven for the Bosnian kings too. Conquered by many, sold by some, today, after a long period of neglect, is slowly being restored.
