Ramljak Family Farm - first class produce and shepherding experience

Extra Info & Inspiration

Most people love to eat meat, but how many of us are really aware of what kind of meat we are consuming. Unfortunately most meat we see in supermarket chains and big stores is foreign-sourced, typically from animals raised in large feedlots and factory farms. Meat, especially various red meats, processed or otherwise, is by its self the food group with negative environmental impacts. Large factory farms, long supply chains, transportation, and packaging have substantial negative environmental effects, and usually result in low food quality, and several health risks.

Local farmers value quality because their reputation and survival are on the line when they sell to the public. By making sure our meat is locally grown we will secure more good flavor and good conscience - we will benefit not only our family and the local farmers but also the local economy and the environment. Pasture raised lamb, chicken, and other meat contain a far higher level of vital omega-3 fatty acids and a lower amount of fat overall (thus lower in calories) than meat from animals raised in feedlots.

Turn to locally sourced, quality food: vegetables, fruits, whole-grain cereals, nuts, and meat. Support local, small-scale farms and advocate for bio-dynamic produce and ethical care of animals which graze on natural pastures and open fields.

Purchasing meat right from the farm means it must be processed at a local butcher shop which must meet state requirements. Labels such as “local” or “organic” must have government approval. Support and buy locally sourced where ever you are!

Ramljak Family Farm
For many years, the Ramljak family farm from Korenica has been breeding indigenous sheep from the Lika region - pramenka. They have a large flock of sheep which graze on natural pastures in the vicinity of the Plitvice Lakes National Park. Their flock won champion titles at the known county event "Autumn in Lika", as well as the famous Bjelovar Fair in Gudovac, the largest fair in the Republic of Croatia. In addition to sheep breeding, the Ramljak family farm is also increasingly successful in cattle breeding, raising indigenous cattle breed of Croatia - buša, and they also have horses. A great opportunity to try out a short and relaxing shepherding experience.

The Ramljak Family offers holiday accommodation too!
