Old Town of Ostrovica - royal safe haven

The historical site of the Royal town of Ostrovica is located on a hill near the small town of Kulen Vakuf in the Una National Park. Although there is no accurate data to verify the beginning of the construction, it is known that the first written record of Ostrovica appeared in 1407 in the certificate issued by the Hungarian-Croatian King Ladislas to the Duke Sandalj in which the King acknowledges Sandalj's ownership of the town.

Like many other historical sites in the area, Ostrovica also testifies to the extremely turbulent history of this region. Due to its important strategic position, size, and almost inaccessibility, this fortification was a safe haven even for Bosnian kings. Conquered by many, sold by some, the site is today being slowly restored after a long period of neglect.

This is a story worth hearing, and the site worth experiencing, so we propose hiring a guide and a lovely guided tour.
