Eco Farm Tour

When all people at all times have physical, social and economic access to healthy, safe and nutritious food that meets their needs for an active and healthy life that means - food security.

And food production systems are particularly vulnerable to climate. Surge in drought, floods and other weather extremes have become more frequent and pose a growing threat to food security.

Whether climate change be only human-induced or not, we are witnessing that this changes are already having a significant effect on the quality and quantity of food produced locally and globally. Other effects include water scarcity and the loss of healthy ecosystems (biodiversity) that are the foundation of food security. And all this is directly related to the quality and high cost of goods sold.

Understanding changes - and what can we do:

- waste less food;
- grow our own food - anybody can grow their own food, we’ll be adding to the world’s global food supply instead of taking from it;
- buy certified sustainable foods - the world’s land and waterways are being depleted at an alarming rate. One of the best ways to help the global food supply is by buying certified sustainable foods helping ensure that there’s enough for generations to come;
- buy products from local farmers - almost all our fruits and vegetables from a supermarket were picked before they were ripe, heavily treated with chemicals, and transported; several long days or weeks on a truck, train or boat. That means that they are not nearly as nutritious and healthy as those that were picked at peak ripeness, and they also cause a whole lot of carbon emissions (read pollution) during the transportation stage.

By buying from local farmers or markets, you’re getting produce that’s both fresh and planet-friendly.

While you're in the area, visit and support family farms worthy of your attention - they offer a well-rounded variety of fresh, organic fruit and vegetables.

Find out more about the seasonal work on the farm, enjoy seasonal fruits and vegetables that retain more nutrients, and learn a bit about the importance of eating with the cycles of nature.
